Want to improve your English? Crave to be more secure with your spoken language? Maybe even interested in studying abroad? Join a group of like-minded students and three teachers from Finland to discover Scotland!
You will meet new friends, visit interesting places, and improve your conversational skills all-the-while using English in and out of classroom.
The summer school takes place in the Scottish Borders area. Your course site is the modern Jean Muir Student Village and the surrounding campus within a hiking distance from some of Scotland’s most interesting and beautiful destinations such as the Abbotsford House (home of Sir Walter Scott). You will also visit Edinburgh – the capital and cultural hub of Scotland.

Program
To complete the optional module/course ENA8, you will take an oral exam at your own school. Please agree upon course accreditation (hyväksilukeminen) with your own teacher beforehand.
The summer school is immersive (kielikylpy), which means that all three teachers will only use English during classes and free-time activities to encourage language learning. Finnish is of course allowed if truly needed.
ENGLANTI, A-KIELI Viesti ja vaikuta puhuen (ENA8)
You will immerse in English in active classes, making use of the environment whenever possible, allowing you to practice in everyday situations with the local people, as well as in the classroom. In addition to strengthening your vocabulary and skills from your previous English courses, you will learn and experience new things about the Scottish society, history and culture and the Scots language. You will prepare a presentation and display your oral skills in a safe group environment and receive personal feedback for your work during the summer school.
Other activities
You will visit local towns and attractions, especially Galashiels and possibly Melrose, and take a trip to the city of Edinburgh. Various free-time and cultural activities will help you befriend your classmates and create a safe social environment, which we know makes learning much more effective – and fun!
An online pre-meeting with the group and the teachers will be arranged before the trip.
